From the cold gale force wind of the Southern Ocean to the warm and smooth ride in the trades, you are guaranteed varied sailing conditions and some navigational challenges en route. For those seeking to gain miles and offshore experience for Yachtmaster certification this is an invaluable experience.

If you decide to join us for the 2nd Leg, you can fly directly to Kerikeri, Bay of Islands Airport on or before the 12th of March. For any new crew member, you will receive 2 days of training. For the crew present during the 1st leg who are keen in continuing with us, you will be staying onboard and enjoy some cruising in New-Zealand.

We will aim to depart (subject to weather) NZ around the 14th of March, after clearing customs at the Bay of Islands Marina.

We will be sailing on top of a low pressure moving East to enjoy the Westerlies pushing us toward Polynesia and stay close to the roaring forties to avoid beating against the South East trade winds. Once arrived in the Gambier islands, the passages will be much warmer and easier than the first or second passage.

Gambier Islands are located in French Polynesia. This is a place of quiet beauty, peacefulness and pride. Traditions thrive in this remote corner of the world so don’t expect 5-star hotel upon arrival, but the traditional Polynesian hospitality which has become famous amongst sailors. We will be spending a week in the Gambier Archipelago.

No formal qualifications are required however for the first two long ocean legs, we are asking that all crew have completed at least a 500 mile ocean passage without seasickness. We will organise 2 days of training to familiarise the crew with the yacht, safety equipment and procedures, and role on board. We also recommend you complete an Offshore Safety and Sea Survival course before you go. Please contact us for further information.

We will be 3 experienced professional sailors onboard who will gladly take your offshore sailing skills to the next level. We are here because we want to share our love of the ocean on one of the best ocean boats ever built.
