Brisbane to Hamilton Island Race | 03 Aug – 9 Aug 2021 | 7 Days | Training & Race

The Brisbane to Hamilton Island Yacht Race provides a unique opportunity to race in a warm water Coastal race to a fantastic destination. Further, the race distance provides a challenge to the sailors, and especially the Navigators.

What to expect on the water:

The 530 nautical mile Brisbane to Hamilton Island challenge is due to start at 11am on the 4th August 2021. With the traditional Queensland Coastal Race route North from Moreton Bay to Breaksea Spit, then face a navigational challenge in order to arrive at Hamilton Island. In doing so, we will navigate the Great Barrier Reef’s southern outcrops, and the beautiful and rugged Islands that mark the approach to Dent Passage, and the finish at Hamilton Island Yacht Club. Crew will then have a few days to rest and recuperate and enjoy the amazing hospitality on offer at Hamilton Island, before the start of the Whitsunday Races.

Your experience onboard Eve will start on the 3rd of August at Southport on Gold Coast for the 90 nm delivery trip north to Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, the organising club, to give you a chance to familiarise yourself with the yacht and to settle into roles before the race the following day. During the training day, you learn about safety onboard, race crew roles, practice the basics of sailing including main, mizzen and jib set, tack, gybe, reef, downwind pole, asymmetric and symmetric spinnakers packing, hoisting, trimming and mizzen staysail.

Staying onboard on 3rd August and after the race is possible but limited, please enquire as early as possible. You should plan to fly out of Hamilton Island Airport on or after 9th August.

Previous sailing experienced is preferred but not compulsory. We usually have onboard 4 professional sailors to provide you with expert advice and assistance, if required.
